Milo Biscuits (Soft, Chewy & Full of Milo Flavour)

This 5-ingredient Milo Biscuits Recipe is easy to follow and delivers 24 biscuits that are perfect for lunch boxes, morning tea or washed down with that warming winter treat that's loved by many – a mug of Milo.

Milo: Australia's favourite "tonic"

Milo was created in 1934, when Nestle decided it would "develop a tonic drink that tasted good enough that children would eat it, whilst giving them the vitamins and minerals they needed, without costing families too much."

Trainee chemical engineer, Thomas Mayne, got to work immediately. But like all great things, it took time. In fact, it took him four years to develop what we now know as Milo. What he struggled with was getting the mix of vitamins and minerals to dissolve when stirred. It had pesky crunchy bits when stirred.

Well, they were pesky until he realised kids loved scooping the crunchy bits off the top and eating them!

The public got its first taste of this new drink, complete with crunchy bits, at the 1934 Sydney Royal Easter Show. Named after a Greek wrestler who lived in the 6th Century BC and possessed legendary strength, Aussies have loved Milo ever since!

Ingredients for Milo Biscuits

Here's what you'll need to make Milo Biscuits:

  • butter
  • castor sugar (superfine sugar)
  • condensed milk
  • SR flour (or add baking powder to plain/all purpose flour)
  • Milo.

The quantities for the ingredients can be found in the recipe card at the end of the post.

TIP: If you want to get fancy, you can also add a freckle or M & M to the top of each biscuit.

How to make Milo Biscuits

Start by pre-heating your oven to moderate (180 degrees celsius, fan-forced). Then line two baking trays with baking paper.

Cream the butter and sugar (on high-med speed in a stand mixer for about 4 minutes). Add the condensed milk and beat again until combined.

Now, fold in the rest of the ingredients until well combined.

Roll heaped teaspoonfuls into balls and place on the trays. Flatten the balls slightly with a fork.

You can add Freckles and M & Ms if desired to the top of the biscuits, but they're pretty good just as they are.

Bake for 12-14 minutes or until cooked.

Allow your Milo Biscuits to cool on the tray for about 10 minutes before removing and cooling on a rack. Store in an airtight container for up to a week

Ingredients
  

  • 125 grams butter (chopped into cubes)
  • ¼ cup castor sugar (or white/granulated sugar) (55 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons condensed milk
  • 1 ⅓ cup SR flour (200 grams) (sifted)
  • ½ cup Milo (60 grams)
  • Freckles or M & Ms to decorate, if desired (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Pre-heat oven to moderate (180 degrees celsius, fan-forced).

Storing: Store in an airtight container for up to 7 days.
Freezing: Freeze in an airtight container for up to a few months. Defrost overnight at room temperature before serving.
