Despite the name, this is quite possibly one of the easiest and most do-able meals you'll find!

This Impossible Quiche Recipe has all the steps to make a tasty egg-based pie from standard ingredients in minutes – no pastry required!

Impossible Quiche: A savoury version of Impossible Pie

Quiche itself has been around since the middle ages and is thought to have originated in Germany.

Impossible Quiche, though, is a more modern idea.

When the sweet impossible pie came onto the scene in the late 1960s, people loved it. A wonderful quick-mix 3-layered dessert that could be thrown together (quite literally) in minutes.

The magic of the recipe was how the mixture magically separates into a pastry, filling and crusty top layer during the cooking process.

And people were quick to realise the recipe could be adapted to make a savoury version.

Here, it's a light and delicious meal can be eaten any time of the day and is made with everyday ingredients.

I've used up some Christmas ham I had frozen to make a Quiche Lorraine style savoury impossible pie.

If you don't have ham or bacon, you can simply find some veges in the fridge that need to be used to make your very own savoury version of this retro dish.

    The Ingredients

To make this delicious little meal, you'll need:

    • eggs
    • plain flour (all purpose flour)
    • milk
    • cheese
    • melted butter
    • onion
    • bacon or ham
    • olive oil
    • fresh chives
    • salt and pepper.

    Impossible Quiche Vegetarian Style

To make the vegetarian version of this quick and easy quiche, simply swap out the bacon/ham for chopped spinach, zucchini or some other vegetable.

How to make Impossible Quiche Lorraine

Start by greasing a pie dish (roughly 24cm). Also pre-heat oven to moderate (180 degrees celsius, fan-forced).

Cook the onion and bacon/ham (or whatever substitute you are using) in oil over medium heat for a few minutes.

Mix together with all the other ingredients, except the chives, until combined.

Pour into your pie dish and bake for 45 minutes.

Garnish with chives and serve hot or cold.

    Enjoy!
